Rajasthans fourth city, Bikaner, rises from the eastern fringes of the Thar Desert, its medieval core encircled by rich pink sandstone ramparts. A crop of ancient Jain shrines and eccentric 19th-century havelis (walled mansions) cluster in the sand-blown back lanes of the old town, but stately Junagadh Fort, on low ground to the north, is the main reason why so many tourists choose to break the long journey to Jaisalmer here. The citadel was built in the late 16th century and is noteworthy first and foremost for the treasures housed in its ornately decorated mahals. One wing of the palace now holds an atmospheric heritage hotel.
The 'pink city' of Jaipur became named after Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II who based the metropolis on November 18, 1727. Jaipur along with Delhi and Agra forms the India's Golden Triangle. that's the maximum popular traveler circuit in India. This capital of Rajasthan is also a gateway to different tourist locations like Ajmer, Pushkar, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Mount Abu inside the nation.
Situtated in the central part of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer occupies a special location as one of the fine travel destinations in Rajasthan. National and global travelers flock here in superb numbers to explore the town and indulge in its superb records and subculture. Popularly referred to as the “Golden city” of India owing to the yellow shade of its well-known forts and havelis made from sandstone, Jaisalmer is strategically placed near the Indo-Pak Border and in an vitaltrading course that had top significance inside the medieval era.
Spread around the shores of shimmering Lake Pichola, Udaipur is the dreamiest of Rajasthans cities. Its skyline of whitewashed havelis and temple towers, rising to the ochre walls and domes of the Sisodia dynastys exquisite City Palace, is one of the most recognisable in Asia, while the sunset views across the water and pleasure palaces on the lake are justifiably the stuff of legend. Shah Jahan once spent a summer here and it is said he was so taken with the beauty of the architecture that he used it as a blueprint for the Taj Mahal. Todays visitors divide their time between explorations of the warrenous old city, and tours of the City Palace, with its richly ornamented mahals. Udaipur also boasts a bumper crop of breathtakingly beautiful palace hotels, and these provide regal bases for day trips to the many monuments scattered among the nearby Aravalli Hills.
A megacity whose fast pace and jarring contrasts are guaranteed to induce a degree of wide-eyed amazement, Indias capital is a compelling point of arrival. The vestiges of at least seven great urban centres rise cheek-by-jowl from the banks of the Yamuna River here, dating back more than 3,500 years.
Indias iconic Mughal tomb fully merits its reputation as the worlds most exquisite building. Agras heart-stopping centerpiece needs little introduction. Rising from the brown-ochre river banks on the southeast fringes of the city like a vision of heaven, the Taj Mahal is the worlds most ethereal building, and the ultimate monument to romantic love. Having admired the white-marble masterpiece in different lights, venture further north to see the tomb as it would have looked to its creator, the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, whiling away his last years incarcerated in the gilded apartments of Agra Fort.
Capital of the former kingdom of Marwar, Jodhpur owes its prominence to the trade route that once passed its gates, connecting the ports of Gujarat with the cities of the northern plains. The resulting wealth enabled the Marwari rulers to construct one of Indias most fabulous forts Mehrangarh on top of a near-vertical escarpment. The cuboid houses of the old town below are painted a hundred shades of blue a practise said to denote the homes of local Brahmins (but which actually derives from attempts to discourage termites by adding copper sulphate to limewash).
The city of Mandawa, founded in the mid 18th century, was once a town inhabited by the rich merchant families. The wealthy and dominant merchants constructed massive havelis, adorned with beautiful wall paintings, for the purpose of their residence. However, with time, the merchants moved on and migrated to other areas, leaving the beautiful havelis in the shadows of anonymity. Still, the magnificence of these havelis did not diminish and now they have become a major tourist attraction of the city.
Mount Abu inside the Sirohi District of Rajasthan is stunning and one and simplest hill station in Rajasthan. it's far one of the most popular retreats for tourists or even honeymoon couples. With a distinct blend of the flavours of Rajasthan, Mount Abu has some of the first-rate locations to go to like Dilwara Jain Temples, Nakki Lake, Achal Garh, Guru Shikhar, Adhar Devi, sunset point, Trevor’s crocodile Park, flora and fauna Sanctuary and Gaumukh.
